Hamlet students in grades K-9 attend schools located within the city limits; Fairview Heights - grades K-3, Monroe Avenue - grades 4-6 and Hamlet Junior High - grades 7-9. High school students attend Richmond Senior High, a consolidated county high school located five miles west of Hamlet.
Richmond Senior High is a model for the state in consolidated high schools. A wide variety of courses are offered to the student body, from precollege to vocational. The TechPrep Program is a new concept for students to plan furthering their education at 2-year community colleges.

Richmond Community College, located in Hamlet, offers Associates in Art and Science Degree, Diploma curriculum in several fields of study as well as Certificate Programs. Some of the degree and Certificate Programs offered include: Accounting, Business Administration, Associate Degree Nursing, Criminal Justice, Computer Aided Drafting, Early Childhood Education, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Human Services and Mechanical Engineering. The college also offers continuing education courses at several off-campus classrooms.
Richmond County is proud of its efforts to meet the needs of all students. McLaurin Vocational Training Center is a sheltered workshop for handicapped students located in Hamlet.
