Hamlet is served by several denominations providing variety and depth in the spiritual of the community. These include Baptist, Methodist, Presbyterian, and Episcopal plus the only Catholic and Lutheran churches in the county.
Local ministers and priests work together on community projects through the Hamlet Ministerial Association for such events as our community worship service at Easter and Thanksgiving. Our Crisis Ministry and Soup Kitchen are operated by volunteers from our local churches.
As in the case in many small towns, local civic groups take an active and critical role in a variety of public service activities. Among the clubs and fraternal organizations in the city are the American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary, Boys and Girls Scouts, Civic Council, D.A.V. and Auxiliary, Extension Homemakers, 4-Her’s, Eastern Star, Garden Clubs, Lion and Lioness, Rotary, Woman’s Club, Hamlet Jr. Woman’s Club, Masons, Shrine Clubs, Senior Citizens Club, V.F.W., and V.F.W. Auxiliary.

The Hamlet Performing Arts and Civic Center
A restoration project has begun to renovate The Hamlet Performing Arts and Civic Center, formerly known as the Grand Opera House. The restoration project, being overseen by a board of directors, will be done in stages in order to facilitate the reopening of the theater as soon as possible. The first floor will have a seating capacity of 250 (Main Auditorium) and the second floor will contain additional seating (50) and a major conference room so the facility can eventually be used as a meeting place or a retreat center. The auditorium will be a multi-purpose facility, which will feature everything from live entertainment to movies. The basement will be renovated as funds allow.
